Summer outfit lust

 pic via

In which I am grumpy and talking about shirts I cant afford becuase I spent my money on crap from forever 21

Im IN LOVE with the Elizabeth and Jame's artist shirts (aka over-sized button-downs designed for the Olsen line). However, they cost a lot more than I'm willing to pay for a simple shirt I'll most likely be wearing while wallowing in the sand. Solution:
Gap Men's White Poplin Shirt Who doesn't love stealing their man's clothing? or better yet...
Gap Men's Sun-faded Chambray I swore I wouldn't buy into this style..but I cant say no to the chambray.
JC Penny SheSaid Over-sized Shirt  If you have something against menswear.

Go crazy.

BEST DAY EVERR

I may not have mentioned this but I am a devoted fan of Shabby Chic by Rachel Ashwell.  Rachel Ashwell has a couple books out as well as a store selling vintage items that embody her aesthetic and apparently a line for Target! Imagine my surprise as I was making a late-night Target run for frozen berries when lo and behold...Shabby Chic bedding!!!!!!!!!!!!Of course I snatched up a white ruffle duvet (pictured here) and some lovely pink floral sheets. I can't even put into words how excited I am to snuggle down in this beautiful comforter this summer and honestly, finding a duvet cover for cheap has been a bitch. The duvet cover also came with two adorable shams. Funny thing is, they have almost the same duvet at Athropologie but it's about 4X more expensive and that's not including the shams (which would be bought separately).  Everything looks very 1940's farmhouse vintage. Timeless and beautifully sweet pastels, florals, and lace. Not convinced yet? Check it out yourself! Its got its own little section in the domestics area in Target or find it here online.  Some new curtains from Shabby Chic are next on my list...by by ugly blue pottery barn atrocity.

V-day!

Valentine's day is right around the corner! I'm probably gonna keep it low key...go see that cute V-day movie with t-swift in it with my girls (so many abbrev's). Down here in Louisiana, it's also Mardi Gras season so parades and debauchery should keep me good and distracted in order to avoid the giant boyfriendless depression pit of unloved doom. But, if you do have that special someone, check THIS out...although these seem more like gifts  you'd give to a chick. Unless your biffle is into heart shaped soaps? But hey, its your call.

The Sofia by Danny Roberts
I'm a huge fan of a lot of his work..and I also loveee Sofia Coppola. I'm saving up for a large print of this for my dorm.

Ahoy!

Did I mention the good news? I'm in my school's musical production of South Pacific! I'm one of the nurses. I'm pretty damn excited because South Pacific means costumes from the 40's!! I put together a sailor inspired outfit for inspiration during rehearsal...I only hope our costumes are this cute. Who knows. Maybe our costume designer will be feeling fatigue onesies. I can only hope. Top, Shorts, Shoes

Pic: February US Vogue

Yeah I considered doing a picture by picture clip-in-braid tutorial the morning after winter formal but one of my trouble-seeking friends kept me awake until 5 in the morning chasing her annoying ass around. No, I'm not bitter. Here's the shorter version:
1. Buy some fake hair in your color. Fake=cheap Human=sketchy and pricey
2. Cut into smaller pieces..sew in wig clips
3. Tease your hair in the spots you put the clips in.
4. Braid one long braid down the side of your head, starting below the ear....hairspray

...Really?

Rockabilly inspiration again, Teen Vogue? Look at that bouffant. Not that I'm really complaining...its just..you've kind of been stuck on that like every six months. Not that anyone really notices, or cares. Because it's just not catching on with your army of teenage subscribers-much to your chagrin, I'm sure. Except for me.  I'd die for this girl's hair. It's precious! If my braid experiment turns into a fiasco, this is deff second in line to the hair throne.

Pass the Plait

Im so hyped over the fact that the long thick side braid is hot all of a sudden. Guido Palau styled the messy braids at the spring Alexander Wang show (pictured) and did almost the same hairstyle at the Miu Miu show as well. So tomorrow is a school dance so I decided to try out this hairstyle for myself (my hair reaches to about mid chest so its completely reasonable)...but cranked up a notch. That's right, I'm talking full-on-clip-in hair extensions.Making mid-chest into high-waist. Expect a tutorial...things could get ugly. Or pretty. Hopefully pretty. Get Excited!

Girl of the Moment

A young Lauren Hutton

Calvin Klein Spring 2010

I was perusing Style.com and stumbled across a makeup tutorial for the Calvin Klein Spring 2010 RTW collection. The models' makeup was dewy, fresh, youthful, and a touch sporty with the low ponytail. I deviated from the directions a little but the result was a considerably less expensive/ shiny version of the ck runway look. All in all, I was very happy with the results! Here's how to get this spring-ready look : 1. Organic Wear Tinted Moisturizer- No need for foundation in this look, but if you want some sort of coverage, go for a tinted moisturizer. Origins tinted moisturizers create smooth, even-toned, dewy skin with a touch of SPF15 and without that shellacked look of foundation. Cover spots with a little concealer.
2. New CoverGirl Smoky Shadow Blast in Bronze Fire- I've been wanting to try this product since I heard it was going to be released and I finally got to give it a shot yesterday. I really love the rouded tip, lighter taupe color. It was very creamy and the perfect light touch to this fuss free look. Just rub a bit on your lid and add a touch on the brow bone and the inside corners of the eyes. The bad:  it didnt blend well with the darker bronze color and I found the darker bronze to be too brassy for my skin tone. So, skip the bronze color and instead, I suggest using Cover Girl Exact Liner to get away from the smudgy-zone and into a crisper look.
3. Cover Girl Exact Liner in Brown- love love love this stuff. The applicator is like a tiny felt tip pen with the perfect amount bendy-ness.  I found it to be very similar to the Dior liquid liners, but its about 3 times less expensive. Make a very thin line over the outside of the upper lash line, to add a small touch of natural looking definition.
4. GreatLash Mascara in Clear- Keeping with the overall theme, I opted for clear mascara instead of black or brown to get my lashes in order, but without adding any false length. I have pretty dark/moderately thick lashes but if this is too au natural, use a soft brown. You can also use this product on eyebrows to keep things looking neat.
5. Calvin Klein Flush with Desire Blush #104- My all time favorite blush...and it's discontinued. It creates the most beautiful, silky, natural flush on my cheeks and was the icing on the cake for this look. I've already hit pan on the ck blush, so I'm making the switch over to Neutrogena Soft Color blush in Divine Wine. The color is almost a perfect dupe and once again, about 3 times less expensive than the ck. A light swipe to the apples of the cheeks and you're good! This is when less is more.
6. CoverGirl Continuous Color in Pure Gloss- This is the same color used on the ck runway! My new favorite color for school days. Just enough color for a touch of refinement. Fairly long lasting, and a nice balmy feel.

There you have it chickadees. A clean look to pair with light spring florals with minimal effort.

Spring is in the air!

In love with the Elaina skirt from BBdakota by Jack. The bow justmakes it! Problem is, I'm out of a job. Meaning, I'm strapped for cash. So it's either this skirt or a straw fedora for the beach. Gotta keep those freckles as bay....but at the same time- BOW on the BUTT. Skirts don't get much better than that. Decisions, Decisions. On a bright note, I've got a job interview scheduled for tomorrow at a local Ballet shop. It would be a perfect situation..working with something I love, yet products I wouldn't spend all my work money on. I'll be able to buy all the bow butts I want soon enough.
