Its been ages!

Ever since weather heated up, I haven't been able to bring myself to stay inside and blog! Also, my brand-new house doesn't have internet, seeing as I'm a starving college kid and all and can't pay for fancy things. Sure, I could go to a coffee shop, but do you know how embarrassing it is when someone else feels the need to point out that you've been on allure.com for two hours straight looking up lipstick colors? Yeah. Not gonna happen. Luckily, my neighbors have yet to figure out the benefits of locking one's wifi, so I have internet for now. So, here's the update!

-New apartment! I'll post pictures when I'm not ashamed of how sparsely decorated it is.

-Cat? This one eyed cat came up to my door and meowed at me so I fed it chicken...I'm hoping it comes back because my roommate and I named it "Handsome Jack" or "Mr. Rochester"

-Hair has grown out , which is exciting and I've fully vetoed dying it red or blonde....but blunt bangs are still in the mix.

-School! I'm still in it for now...haven't flunked out yet so that's good. 

-Work..Yep, I got a j.o.b. Not too exciting...I file papers

-Boyfriend. got one

-Food- I eat it

That pretty much updates you on everything. I gotta do some outfit posts because I picked up some really cool clothes thrifting the other day. Also to come- I offered to help a friend organize and cute-itize her house so I'm hoping for some before and after pictures. (SIDE NOTE_ I found a digital camera in my new couch...pictures are at the end of the post). 

Summer is in 2 weeks! Hopefully I'll start posting regularly once I don't have to write a paper every week.

Throughly Natural Emily

So I'm trying this new thing....

I have extremely fussy skin. Use the wrong product and my skin will be flaking off, red and bumpy, or a full fledged break-out.
Even the wrong laundry detergent can irritate my skin.

The solution!
For starters, I'm trying to eat healthier. Expect some yummy recipes coming your way.
Im getting rid of store bought deodorant! No, I'm not gonna go au natural, I've attempted to make my own anti-smelly concoction.  Here's the recipe!

Homemade Deodorant

1/2 cup Coconut Oil (my new favorite spread)
4 tbs Baking Soda (aluminum free)
2 tbs Arrowroot Powder (you can sub in cornstarch)

Mush it all up really well! If you want it to stay solid, don't put it anywhere that dips higher than 76 degrees (the melting point of coconut oil)
It's ok if it does melt, I just find it a little messy.
Feel free to add essential oils! I put a few drops of lemongrass and lavender in mine. Lots of people use tea tree oil, but I find it rather harsh.


I've also re-vamped my skincare routine.
I haven't quite settled on the right face wash, but I've nixed the moisturizer. In Louisiana, it's incredibly balmy, muggy, sticky and moisturizer does more harm than good. Also, the scents often irritate my skin. But! My face washes often dry my skin out, no matter what! My forehead is perpetually dry, but any lotion will make it break out. Bring in the Witch Hazel!

Here's to my new best friend...Theyer's Rose Petal Witch Hazel...with Vitamin E and Aloe Vera! I've replaced my morning wash with rubbing a cotton ball of this stuff over my face. I also put it on after my night time wash. If you have dry or combination skin, it usually not necessary to wash your face twice a day. Unless you fall asleep with your makeup on...
Its ingredients are non-comedogenic, or at least that's what I found when I went through the list of them and googled. So far, my skin is softer, no flakes, and the redness on my nose has decreased.

Rainy day, Go Awayy!

Its dreary and rainy and gross outside. Blehk. I was planning on waking up, taking a nice walk, maybe going to get a taco from the local taco truck...but I woke up to the disheartening pitter-patter of day-ruining raindrops. So what am I doing? Well, since itunes doesn't have "The Notorious Bettie Page" for rent...I'm watching "Ramona and Beezus".

I've been tossing around the idea of red hair for a while. Naturally my hair has zero red in it..its darker brown with some natural lighter pieces, but I highlight the fuck out of it with blonder, honey tones. Part of me wants a full red dip, part of me wants some strawberry redish highlights, and another part of me wants to go full blonde. Does red hair look freaky on tan girls? I get dark in the summertime. Thoughts? Opinions?

Irrational Purchase #2

New Jeffery Campbell platform wedges....I had to buy them in a 6, even though I'ma solid 6 1/2...my biggest pet peeve is heels hanging off the backs of shoes. Well, luckily I can't stare at my heels all day... so I'm keeping them.

Wanna know what makeup i used? I'm trying a new minimalist approach...im living in between my dorm and my boyfriend's super cute apartment so lugging around makeup isnt an option. 

eyes- smashbox bionic mascara

- Kind of in love with it, wish it came in black.

- It never makes my eyelashes spidery, it creates a natural, darker, longer lash

cheeks and lips- stila yumberry crush lip and cheek stain

- just the right amount of bright punch for my cheeks, but *warning* a tiny little bitty bit goes a long way
-apply it to the tops of your cheek bones to look a tad flushed
- for lips, rub it in with your finger- the applicator is useless - and add a little chapstick to top it off
