Date night

..with my 4 closest girlies! Im in charge of renting a movie called TiMER...100% rom-com goodness. We saw the preview for the movie on the little front row app on macbook. In the movie, people can get timers put into their arms that count down time until they meet their soul mates. The problem is, the lead female's timer reads 0:00 and the boy she loves has a timer set to like 3 months or something. Cheesy? Yes. But a little cute, non? Anyways, girls night at my house means I get to make the desserts! So here's my little rice krispie recipe of tastiness. Its my slight modification of the box recipe. More butter, and better mallow/krispie ratio.

6 cups plain rice krispie cereal
1 jar of jet puffed marshmallow cream
4 tablespoons of salted stick butter...using margarine at this point would be stupid, not to mention gross
sprinkles! As much as you want! The more the merrier in my opinion.

Get a smallish non-stick pot and melt the butter then add the jar of marshmallow. When its relatively soupy pour it all into a large bowl you'll be using to mix in the krisp. Oh you'll want to have a wax paper covered pan near by..brownie pan sized will do. Wait just a little bit for the mixture to drop from molten-death heat to touchable and start mixing in the krispie bit by bit. I tend to just rub some stick butter on my hands and forgo the spatula for mixing. Mixing it by hand may or may not be more effective but it certainly is fun! Once its all evenly coated (and sprinkles are added), scoop it into your wax paper pan and slip the whole thing into the fridge for like 20 minutes. You'll want to make sure its packed down into its pan tightly or else they'll fall apart when you eat them. After 20 minutes, they'll be perfect! Don't leave them in the fridge overnight or else they'll dry out into hard mounds of what used to be deliciousness. Store it instead on the counter with some plastic wrap for protection against the elements!

Don't be surprised if the krispies never quite make it to the fridge. They smell soooo good when you are mixing them that obscene amounts of snacking can occur. A little tip: my friend Milly loves putting peanut butter on hers and mixing in some chocolate chips.

Mamihlapinatapai

definition:  a word from the Yaghan language of Tierra del Fuego, listed in The Guinness Book of World Records as the "most succinct word", and is considered one of the hardest words to translate.[1] It describes "a look shared by two people with each wishing that the other will initiate something that both desire but which neither one wants to start."

I wish there was a word like this in English...we need a whole paragraph to describe such a common little situation.

from Bonnaroo to Waterloo

I've hardly recovered from my latest adventures at Bonnaroo and its time to start thinking about my trip to England! Ill be spending about a week in the english countryside with a stop off in london then a short stay in scotland before flying home. First thing on my packing list? Some classic wellies! I don't think my bright blue monkey print rain boots are going to cut it for the queen. I've got my eye on these babies and I know exactly what to wear them with! The "Judy or Madeline" dress from ModCloth. Is it a trench? Is it a dress? Does it matter? Its perfect for a brisk morning walk...I'm so ready for this vacation.

Best Talk of My Life

"Hey, I'm going to Matt's(my brother)"
"Commin' home?"
"Nope.."
"Kay, see you later."

This is what occurred between my mother and me the night after my high school graduation. I want to be clear that I was grounded for a week for staying at my brothers apartment once. I was the most sheltered of the sheltered, a 12:00 curfew up until my last day of my senior year. Its been a very surreal week- having only been home twice with a few ambiguous texts sent back and forth. The funny part is that my parents probably trust me just as much as they did before i graduated (which wasn't very much) but once that diploma was handed to me, the ivory tower my parents had me holed up in was demolished. The only downside is that I've been totally neglecting my blog and the style pictures i've taken have been just sitting in my camera for the past few days. My time has been mostly spent with my brother and the Ryan kids. Matt left yesterday for a two month trip to europe and yes, I cried like a baby when he left. As for the Ryan kids, I've been friends with the younger sister Colleen since birth practically. I can't even put into words how much fun she is.....she's my sassier, bolder half. The thing is, we went to middle school together but when we got into high school, she went to public school while I was shipped to an all girl catholic high school. Summertime is when we make up for lost time. I remember the summer before my sophomore year, she literally lived at my house with high-jinx all around. That's about it for this pointless little life update/trip down memory lane. I should be poppin' out some posts here and there but this summer looks to me like one i'll never forget so I wouldn't count on me sitting down at my mac too often.

working out..is ..fun?

You know me, all about pumping some iron. Except I hate working out...90% of the time. My ideal work out is probably a 20 min run on the treadmill every three weeks or doing some laps in the pool after soaking up some sun. I want to take some yoga classes, but its taking me some time to find a place thats nearby and relatively inexpensive. I was reading InStyle the other day and it mentioned hula hooping as a new method of slimming down! I don't know about you, but that sounds like straight up fun to me. They have oodles of options online for weighted hula hoops, but I know a little trick.

Ghetto Weighted Hula Hoop
1 serrated knife
1 cheepie hula hoop from wal-mart or someplace like toys-r-us
1 bag of pennies...like 2 lbs worth
1 roll of duct tape

Cut the hula hoop open with the serrated knife, making sure to avoid any appendages (I almost drew back a nub). Hopefully your hula hoop's pipe is large enough for pennies...unlike my first hoop. So, fill your hoop with pennies to your desired weight. I would suggest 1-3 lbs, over three can really be too much for your first few times and you can always increase its weight. Tape the hoop back together and voila! Weighted hula hoop...albeit a loud one.

Summer Time!

Its officially summer!!! And I couldn't be more excited! I have beacoup cool things planned this summer. I really am lucky to have two awesome parents and so many amazing friends. First things first, I'll be off to bonnaroo with my girlie colleen. Two better-than-VIP tickets doesn't even compare to the exciting trip up with just me, colleen, and the open road. First ever solo-roadtrip. No pressure, but it had better be the best experience of my life. Next on the agenda is a stately trip to england with my parents. It should be fun, I've only been to london once but I was about 10 so the whole history and style of the place was really lost on me. I should be much much more appreciative this time around. Weirdly enough, I'm excited for the food! I love me some fish and chips. Last but certainly not least, I'm wrapping up the summer with a trip to the Jack Johnson concert in Texas. I plan on taking oodles of photos and sharing every little bit. I'm going to start up a "What I'm Wearing" post. It was silly of me to try while I was still under the oppression of catholic school uniforms 5/7th's of the time (weekdays...). So, now that I'm off to higher education it's about time I stepped up and took some damn style photos!
Oh one last thing. I got my crazy, big hair keratin treated. Blow-your-mind before and after pics will surface eventually.

Trichomania!

I promise this isnt just a lump on your screen. It's a lump of heaven. It's solid shampoo by LUSH in Trichomania! LUSH is a uk brand specializing in natural products free of preservatives and scary chemicals. This is my first time ever seeing/using a shampoo bar but I really loved it. On top of it being just plain useful (no awkward bulky bottles, just one quick swipe ) its coconut which means super moisturizing and perfect for my dry, fluffy hair. My friend Colleen dragged me into LUSH a little earlier today and enlightened me to their world of earth-friendly, good-smelling, useful products. Bath fizzies are my new motivation for finding a job this summer.

Wash that man right outta your hair!

Not a fan of leftover hairspray after an event? Product can build up in your hair over time...everything from  mousse to de-tangler. To get a fresh start and get all that gunk out of your junk, a clarifying shampoo is just what you need. I don't like straying from my usual coconut shampoo so I found an at-home remedy, no replacement shampoo necessary.  Simply add two teaspoons of baking soda to shampoo until it becomes liquified (I usually mix it into one of those little cardboard rinsing cups). Wet your hair in the shower then apply the mixture to the roots- making sure to get a good scrub before you rinse. Follow with your regular shampoo and conditioner. Do this about once every few weeks and your hair will be in tip top shape! Instructions found here.
